A major Chinese rock-Midi Festival, which was supposed to take place between 1st and 4th of May this year in Beijing shall be postponed in order not to shatter the Olympics that will occur in August, said The Guardian.
Following this newspaper’s article, a festival (if it will eventually happen) should be arranged again in autumn, after the games. Festival’s organizers have explained their decision by the fact that the currect Olympics is the most important event right now, and nothing must stand on it’s way.
However, The Guardian also noted a few more possible reasons for this postponing. They may be connected to the security activities in China before the Olympics. Simply Chinese authorities could be afraid that this music festival can serve as the place for criticism against their governmental actions in Tibet. The Guardian brought up an example of such musical prostest. A recent Bjork’s performance in Shanghai where she has finished her song “Declare Independence” exclaiming “Tibet! Tibet!” can never be something what must popularize an upcoming Olympics.
