The Libertines May Get Back

Ex leaders of the British band The Libertines Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have announced some information about the soon reunion of their group. This joint announcement made by these two musicians was first heard at the New Musical Express magazine awards ceremony, where Doherty was proclaimed to be the “best performer”. Currently, Pete Doherty is Babyshambles frontman, so until recent time he was quite happy about his career over there. Now he believes that The Libertines will come back in 2010, but before that this guy is planning to release the solo album and orginise a concert tour in support of it. Doherty is a good musician and cannot stay only within one single music project, he wants to be everywhere at the same time and so far all of his beginnings had perfect endings. On the other hand, Carl Barat did not continue co-working with his band Dirty Pretty Things by simply cancelling it’s existance. Now he also wants to starts his own and probably well led solo project. However, as he told The Sun, he hates to work alone and terribly needs a group of musicians to create good music. He thinks that The Libertines is the best place to fullfill his thirst for such collective music creativity.

The Libertines were founded by Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, bassist Jon Hussell and drummer Gary Powell in 1997. They’ve lasted until 2004 while releasing only two studio albums “Up the Bracket” (2002) and “The Libertines” (2004). Hopefully, they will do way much better this time.

Metallica Was Saved By the Stones

Metallica’s frontman Lars Ulrich said that in 2004, right after the release of “St. Anger” and touring in support of it, his band was nearly falling apart. The band was literally saved by a phone call from The Rolling Stones who have proposed Metallica to perform together in San Francisco, notes Contacmusic. As Ulrich says, after “St. Anger” came out they’ve received a lot of negative feedbacks from many critics and their fans, so the band’s future was in the deep shadow. He was getting prepared to leave Metallica and begin his solo career. All this pessimistic situation was also going even worse due to James Hetfield’s alcoholism, who had to go through a rehab in order to get back on his feet. By that time “St. Anger” tour was over and musicians didn’t see each for months, internal anticipation in the band was leaving no hope to save it. However, soon after that saving call from The Rolling Stones they’ve decided to just come together and rehearse. Metallica went into a studio only five days before the concert, “There was no film crew, no producer, no psychiatrist, no minders, no babysitters, none of that s**t. It was just us four guys and we started playing music and rehearsing”. recalls Lars.

For the following years Metallica was doing great, their artistic qualities grew and progressed into even bigger spheres. According to IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) their next album “Death Magnetic” was included into the top ten albums of 2008.

Coldplay And Many More

British band Coldplay will participate in the line of beneficial concerts to help Australian fire victims, said Billboard. This thing is going to take place on March 14 in Sydney and Melbourne (cricket stadiums). Charity activities have always been cool, so they will bring only more respect to those who play a role in them. Coldplay shall perform with an acoustic set in Sydney, and will share the stage with such musicians as The Presets, Icehouse, Rockers Jet and Wolfmother. Headliners of the Melbourne concert will be Midnight Oil, which should reunite only for this event. It’s interesting to know that their vocalist Peter Garrett is currently the Australian minister of culture, so this band may not get back on the stage any soon. Melbourne event will also include Kings of Leon, Split Enz, Hunters and Collectors – pretty good company for only too cities. Tickets will go for the price of 48$ (75 Australian dollars) and all the profit shall be divided between two charity funds that are suppose to aid victims of the Australian wildfires.

During the last week Sony Music was doing something similar by releasing a CD compilation called “Bushfire Aid”. The unity between music and voluntary help cannot go unnoticed.

Art For The Sake Of Art

The biggest record labels have decided to allow Spotify MP3 service to upload and spread their music to it’s clients, said The Times. Spotify’s catalogue contains over four million songs bringing them to the same level with iTunes (nearly ten million songs). Recently, more and more record companies began to realise that their traditional way of selling music is totally outdated and simply cannot adjust itself to the world of digital technology. Labels are coming to the idea that there is no way to stop MP3 agenda, which currently runs through another unstoppable thing – Internet. In case of Spotify there is no free downloading, but any customer can listen to the sound online without any limitations, in other words some computer program will soon be invented to record this sound. Every thirty minutes users have to listen to fifteen seconds of commercials, and in order to get rid of them they will have to pay ten euros per month. All of it shows new ways to make money out of music, and they look quite different from the way it was ten or fifteen years ago. Generally speaking, those who would like to make money on sounds will have to either play live or just simply find another way to make it. Art for the sake of art comes closer.

Another Stolen Record

The first listeners of a new U2 album “No Line on the Horizon” are going to be the readers of British newspaper The Guardian. Following certain information given by this respected issue, all eleven tracks are already available on it’s official web site, even though this album was supposed to get out on March 2. Nevertheless, recently (another traditional story) “No Line on the Horizon” appeared on the Internet and was quickly spread all over the digital world. Once again the traditional way of advertising was sent nowhere, and it’s a good news for all progressive music lovers. As Billboard says, the responsible side for this major leakage is Getmusic.com.au, which is closely related to U2’s record label Universal Music. Getmusic.com.au is offering it’s visitors to purchase music or just listen to it online. However, nobody knows who exactly had used this music service to steal the record because all kinds of harsh methods were used to protect it. In other words, certain amount of bravery was required. Even U2 managers could not use any sorts of recording equipment while visiting closed up presentations.  Such a release is quite significant for U2, hence it’s been four years since they’ve produced their last work “How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” in 2004.

INXS Kicks Out Fortune

Australian band INXS had refused to continue any co-operation with it’s vocalist Jason Dean Bennison (J.D. Fortune), said ContactMusic. A thirty-five years old Canadian singer is now not just without any job, but also without a house, hence he is living in his own car. Pretty bad situation for someone who was seriously high in popularity during the last few years. Bennison began to work with INXS in 2005 by winning a music contest which was organised by the band members. Casting was very tough and selective, so right after getting in Bennison promised a lot of hope and fortunes. His material life before this contest was as bad as right now – he lived in his car. The band had decided to kick him out right after they’ve finished their twenty three months of constant touring. As he told the press, the group thanked him for his efforts, but halted any further co-working in the future. The real problem is laying in Bennison’s drug habits, which continued throughout the last four years including the last tour. Music business is like any other business – you don’t do your job, and things go down quite fast.

INXS was founded in Sydney in the late 1970’s, and during their quite long music career they’ve released eleven studio albums. The last one - “Switch” came out in 2005.

"The E.N.D" Is Their New Beginning

American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas had announced the release date of their next album, said Billboard. “The E.N.D.” should come out on June 9, 2009 and as many music experts say it will be something what people didn’t see before. It shall be their first full studio record for the last four years, so what exactly could happen to these guys is not very well known for sure. As will.i.am (real name is William James Adams Jr.,) told the press “The E.N.D’s” track list includes twelve songs. The first single -“Boon Boom Pow” – will be presented on the radio stations as well as in many night clubs all around the world in nearest time. When talking about stilistic features of the new disk will.i.am had mentioned the fact that it incorporates not only club or energetic songs, but also some melodic and sentimental tunes as well. Will.i.am believes that Black Eyed Peas musicians think of their new album as of something in the style of “electric-static-funk”.

During the last four years when the band did not participate in any joint work, some members of the group began their own side projects. In 2006 Fergie had released her first and extremely successful album “The Dutchess”. Will.i.am had recorded his third solo album “Songs About Girls” in 2007.

The Joint Spiral

Nine Inch Nails frontman and the unchangeable leader Trent Reznor had announced his plan to organise the joint tour together with Jane’s Addiction, which had recently reunited in it’s original lineup, said Billboard. This co-operation should start sometime in 2009, but right now there are now exact dates or venues. It had to happen for years, and finally this is going to take place, NIN and Jane’s fans will see these trully revolutionary bands rocking the world. Trent believes that these upcoming concerts shall be “much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted”, possibly because there can be no script when two bands of this kind come on stage together. Currently, Nine Inch Nails are touring the US with their incredible concert program, “Lights in the Sky”. In Spring 2008, Trent Reznor had released two studio albums -“Ghosts I-IV” and “The Slip”, which were spread right throught the Internet, showing innovative technologies in the music business. Recently, Trent had uploaded 400Gb of their concert videos and made it accessible to everyone for free.

Nine Inch Nails seems to be one of those bands which searches for it’s own absolutely unique ways of making it in the world of music. NIN’s sound never really gets old, for example one of their first albums “Broken” (1992) may appear extremely modern to someone who doesn’t know it’s release date. They simply don’t follow any trends.

White Stripes Get Things Going

On February 20 an infamous American duet White Stripes will appear live on NBC channel, said New Musical Express. They should participate in the comic program “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” and perform at the mini concert right during the show. The best part about it is that it shall be their first live performance since 2007. It will not be their first appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show – they’ve already performed live over there in 2003 for seven nights in a row. Currently, NME is not making it clear what particular songs White Stripes may expose to the world, and what kind of new stuff they possess. Back in September 2007 this Detroit duet had to cancel eighteen American concerts, which supported their last album “Icky Thump”, due to Meg White’s (drummer) panick attacks. She simply could not get out on stage and perform because of this often artistic psychological problem. During this unexpected break vocalist and guitarist Jack White had worked on his side project The Raconteurs while releasing two full blown studio albums with them.

This extremely talented band is a mixture of something old and something new at the same time. Classic rock, Jack White who sings almost like Robert Plant, and somewhat gothic looking Meg make it all very unique.

The Project Continues

Ex Led Zeppelin guitarist Robert Plant began the recording process of another album together with American country singer Alison Krauss. This guy is totally absorbed by her and it seems that he is planning to keep on doing it until the end of times, and even his former band mates from Led Zeppelin couldn’t do anything about it. The first time when these two musicians have decided to co-work took place in 2007 with the release of “Raising Sand”. During this year’s Grammy they were able to get five awards on “The best album of the year”, “The best record”, “The best country-duet” and so on, practically showing that their joint project is going to continue in the future. Rolling Stone magazine believes that “Raising Sand” turned to be the most successful project that Krauss had every produced, and for Plant it’s just another cool thing to do.

The second album shall be produced by the same guy who helped them to make up the first one - T Bone Burnett. “Alison and Robert have been in the studio for about two weeks and although we havent’ heard any of the music, we’ve been hearing good things from the musicians”, said Rounder Records representative Ken Irwin.

Heaven And Hell Comes Back

Members of the legendary British band Black Sabbath are going to release the album, which was recorded without Ozzy Osbourne, said Reuters. Heaven and Hell project that was put together in 2006 by Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Vinny Appice, and an ex-Black Sabbath vocalist Ronnie James Dio made it possible to produce a record called “The Devil You Know”. In reality this is not something totally new for this group because they’ve already stayed without Ozzy for many years back in 1980’s while producing numerous cool records. Eventually guys have decided to practice their previous ways with another vocalist, who in many people’s opinion helped Black Sabbath to make not less classic albums than with Ozzy. Heaven and Hell is going to be the second release with the same name since 1980, and it’s ‘going out day’ is set for April 28, 2009. The album shall include such songs as “Bible Black,” “Rock & Roll Angel,” “Breaking Into Heaven,” “Atom & Evil” and “Eating the Cannibals.”

In 2007 Ozzy Osbourne’s collegues have released CD-version of “Live from Radio City Music Hall”, and later the great DVD with this New York concert. Let’s see what kind of music these kings of metal will bring to us this time. It should be heavy and powerful.

Another Major Tour

Metallica’s lead guitarist and singer James Hetfield is thinking about repeating his band’s successful 1988’s American tour, but this time in Europe, said Reuters. Practically, Metallica in the 1980’s was known for it’s powerful and extremely popular live show programs that made it famous before MTV even heard of them. Back in 1988 together with Van Halen and Scorpions they’ve organised thirty concerts. Each concert lasted for ten hours turning it into a huge live spectacles, which eventually gave them an incredible fame. Playing live was their key to success, something people don’t really see nowdays among numerous new bands because plastic, digital and generally speaking more commercialised ways of entertaining destroy live presentation. Today Metallica is one of the most popular rock bands, legendary and unstoppable shall tour Europe together with Linkin Park and Slipknot within “Sonisphere” concert program.

This tour will start in Holland’s Nijmegen on June 20 this year and should continue in Germany, Spain, Sweeden and Finland. The last show of this grand tour is going to take place in England. The only problem with it is that the band is constantly avoiding Eastern Europe, Greece and former Yugoslavia, even though that part of Europe may be way more into their music.

No Time For Paris

Recently, Paris Hilton had asked Paul McCartney to make a joint music record, notes The Sun. On February 8 she has talked with an ex-Beatle in Los Angeles right after the Grammy ceremony, but it seems that Sir Paul did not get very interested in it.

Hilton made the direct proposal by saying that she is also dealing with music and would like to sing together with him. People can only imagine what she was thinking at the moment and of course what kind of ‘power’ was used, but it did not work. McCartney declined this proposal, and noted that currently he is extremely busy with his other music projects. So, he’s got no time for Paris. Just imagine for a moment what kind of music void is dividing these two people? Definitely, she did not have any serious plans to deal with him on the music level, or at least on the level of creating equal art. Maybe she wanted to get him onto her ‘winning’ list? Who knows anyway… One of the witnesses said that, “Sir Paul was minding his own business when Paris traipsed right up to him and introduced herself. He looked bemused, smiled and nodded – then stumbled out that he’d have to check his schedule.” Unbelievable and funny.

What Happened To Rihanna?

Popular singer Rihanna did not perform at the Grammy Awards ceremony, and the most itchy part about it is that she had announced it only one hour before an event, said Associated Press.

Almost right before the show it came out that Rihanna’s boyfriend singer Chris Brown who was also nominated (and had to sing) for this award, presumably has assaulted a woman, and all of it may be connected to Rihanna. Definitely it turned out to be the biggest and the only reason for cancellations of their performances. Was she directly involved in anything what is going on around Brown is not known for certain so far. As police says, on Saturday (February 7) Brown was driving with an unknown woman heading for Hancock-Park in LA. When they got out of his car both began to argue and eventually ended up in fighting, so currently, he is accused of a felony. Brown’s representative didn’t comment anything yet, but it is already known that he is out on 50,000 dollars bail. Everybody wants to know Rihanna’s role in this pretty nasty incident.

On Grammys ceremony he was supposed to perform “Forever”, and Rihanna had to come out with “Live Your Life/Disturbia”. Her act was staged right after U2, which opened the ceremony.

Hotels, Concerts And U2

Hotel prices in Dublin are currently on the rise due to an upcoming U2 concert, said Belfast Telegraph. For example, during three days from July 24 to July 26 when U2 is going to play in Dublin the prices at Jurys Hotel, which usually stay at 299 euros per night, will jump up to 900 euros. Jurys is located right next to the Croce Park were the band is about to perform. Despite the price escalation U2 fans have already reserved eighty five percent of all Dublin suites, and it is also expected that nearly eighty two thousand people are planning to visit that city to see the band. Local hotel owners believe that they may not be able to take everyone, even after doubling and tripling the prices. Therefore, the cost shall keep on rising no matter what, but will it stop U2 fans from going there? Definitely not. It’s interesting that U2 musicians are owning some hotel business in Dublin, and right now they’re investing money into another construction project. Members of the band are planning to spend 235 million dollars on reconstructing an old builidng in the historical part of the city. This project was developed by the British architect Norman Foster.

No Faces, Only Stones

The Rolling Stones are planning to start the first world tour since 2006, said Gigwise. Following the information given by this source, the band had decided to do such a massive thing right after they’ve found that Rod Stewart will not reunite The Faces. Practically, one of The Rolling Stones’ guys Ronnie Wood used to play in there from 1969 to 1975. By the end of 2008 there was a rumour which kept on saying that The Faces are going to come back. However, all this stuff was disaproved by Stewart, and right now it means only one thing – The Rolling Stones! So, Wood will not be involved in any kinds of work with The Faces or Stewart and will totally get absorbed by his number one group. Also, ContactMusic believes that Ronnie Wood terribly needs money in order to cover his horrible divorce expanses. Recently, he has left his wife and started the brain crashing romance with a twenty years old waitress Katya Ivanova.

The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards even kept on convincing Wood to do this tour, not only to fix his financial problems, but also to get away from his personal and heart breaking issues. Gigwise notes that all The Rolling Stones musicians are in a good physical shape and they surely can make another world tour.

No Break For Kaiser Chiefs

British band Kaiser Chiefs had decided to take a break in order to stay away from making music in any shape or form, said ContactMusic. This sad result was literally forced upon them due to a terrible dissatisfaction with their last single “Good Days Bad Days”, which failed to appear on the national music charts – top one hundred. It is curious because this release was produced by Mark Ronson himself. He had previously co-worked with Amy Winehouse (“Rehab”, “You Know I’m Not Good”, “Back to Black”), Lilly Allen (“Little Things”) and Robbie Williams (”Lovelight”). Mark never fails, but this time either because of bad management or just some natural artistic glitch Kaiser’s single didn’t get to the right place. Things happen… In one of the recent interviews Kaiser Chiefs told the press that they’re not planning to release any new singles from their last studio album “Off With Their Heads”, which came out in October 2008 conquering number two on the British hits chart. The first single “Never Miss a Beat” was released two weeks before the album, and turned to be quite successful.

However, many sources speak about the fact that Kaiser Chiefs are actually not going to move out from the stage. “It’s certainly not the end of the road for the band. They want to come back better than ever,” one of them said.

Take That Wrote The Best Songs

Recently one of Take That’s artists Gary Barlow was proclaimed to be the best British songwriter, said Monsters & Critics. Seriously, this statement looks a little big vague and unusual because otherwise groups like Pink Floyd or The Beatles will have to move out before Barlow, so it’s definitely not fair, and incorrect. Such results were taken by Onepoll after asking and talking to three thousand music lovers. Nowdays Barlow, who is obviously not without a talent, is considered to be one of the most successful authors-performers of the 1990’s. Songs like “Pray”, “Back for Good”, “Patience” turned Take That into a pop music sensation of it’s time. Besides Take That, he used to write for Atomic Kitten, Blue, Charlotte Church and others. Barlow’s efforts did not go unnoticed, he received five Ivor Novello awards, which are specifically made up for the best songwriters.

Polls have shown that Gary Barlow had pushed John Lennon and Paul McCartney onto the second and third places. Still, it sounds quite unbelievable. However, this is not the first time when Take That goes number one instead of The Beatles. In 2008 they were proclaimed to be the greatest ‘boys band’ in the history of show business, leaving legendary ‘Liverpool four’ behind themselves.

Bruce The First

Bruce Springsteen’s new album “Working on a Dream” reached number one on the British hits chart, said Digital Spy. This result was achieved only after the first week of sales, and it’s going to be his seventh success of this kind in the United Kingdom. Bruce was always quite popular in Britain, so all these statistics only prove it once again. Another new thing of this music week is Franz Ferdinand’s “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand”, which surprisingly to many fans has lost to Springsteen. “Only by the Night” by Kings Of Leon went to number three. Practically, the old faces and the same music agenda holds all these first spots without giving in. Hits parade which was formed exclusively with the new singles also turned to be very predictable. Lilly Allen’s “The Fear” went first, Lady GaGa (leader of the last week) took number two, and Kid Cudi vs. Crookers with their “Day ‘N’ Nite” retreated a little bit by going to number three.

The new leader of the British hits chart had performed at the Tampa stadium last night during the American Superbowl finale. Springsteen has played his old songs like “10th Avenue Freeze Out”, “Born To Run” and “Glory Days”. “Working on a Dream” was respected as well at the end of the show.
